I too, asked very similar questions. Haven't as of yet received any truly satisfying answers but I did cross one very important bridge. And that is this: From the prospective of the WBTS and their claim of being God's channel through the governing body and/or the faithful and discreet slave (and by extension any religious group who claim similar priviledge) I did a detailed research into such claims. The actual claim is suppossedly nothing more than an extention of the first century congregational authority. If you would be interested in reading my findings I will gladly send it along to you in a word format doc. Simply send an email address that I might forward to. The only request I have is your thoughts about the study after you read it.

A Bible Question, please comment
by restrangled inthere will have to be assumptions involved here.....that god exists, the bible is the word of god and creation is as stated in genesis, etc.
etc.. in the old testament, god seemed pretty straight forward, let certain people know (and not by osmosis) his intent.
backed certain kings, and showed power through physical occurrences over and over again.. along comes his son, who died for the entire race as a ransom for adam's sin.

if something is quoted can a jw...
by carla inif an author is quoted in the mags (or shall i say misquoted) and a jw learns where the quote actually came from even if it is of religious nature (non jw) can the jw then read the book?.
if the writers in ny are reading christendoms books and quoting where it suits them why can't the dub read the book?
(let me guess, my brothers have done all the work for me, or they are of the annointed.

I would agree that we should check and double check all reference materials for their credibility but if the Watchtower quotes them we should be assured of quality materials. Or so I thought. I recently submitted a study to my ex PO and he discredited the study because some of the reference material was from others who did not believe completely as JW's do. Many adhered to the Trinity doctrine so the PO rejected the entire study. Well, when I showed him how often the Society quoted from the same sources I would have thought that he would have given it a second chance but no he still rejected the study. Why? Because it was contrary to JW beliefs.

Finally - some DVD interviews re: Kohl Productions available
by Lady Lee ini few years ago dr. penton, grace gough/mouthy and i were interviewed for a series of videos about t6he wts, cults and the jws.
the goal for the interview series was to raise funding for a documentary about the wts and how it manipulates the unwary as well as their own members.. when i had my interview dr. penton and grace had already done theirs and i know the kohls (father and son) were on their way to do a fourth interview.. life requires you make some money so the project was put on hold while they took care of life's necessities.
the first threee videos were available as vhs cassettes but recently the cassettes were removed.

Last Days by Carl O. Jonnson
by concerned x ini have just finished reading the book by carl olof jonnson about the subject of the last days.
a very interesting and enlightening book.
i noticed though that there was no discussion concerning the preaching of god's kingdom as a sign of the "time of the end".

I have just finished reading the book by Carl Olof Jonnson about the subject of the last days. A very interesting and enlightening book. I noticed though that there was no discussion concerning the preaching of God's Kingdom as a sign of the "time of the end". Has anyone done any further research concerning this matter? The JW's will always point to their efforts in the kingdom preaching work world wide as proof of the end coming as well as God's backing. Any thoughts concerning their claims?

After reading through this link, the question I have is this: Just who is Bushby? There are so many discrediting remarks concerning him but a review of his books at Amazon all show positive responses from readers. Is he creditable or a fraud? Maybe even just a bit misguided? Who can shead some light on this subject?

JW's compared to other religions
by concerned x ina conversation with a po this week led to a request from him to make a comparison of of jw's to other religions.
for ex: their preaching work, their growth, their brotherhood, their building projects, their assistance in times of natural disasters, etc.
the search engine in jwd is not working and i would appreciate any information written about this subject in the past..

The Day Has Arrived
by concerned x intwo months ago i stepped down as an elder in the cong, it was a tremdous relief although a shock to the cong.
two and a half days ago i sent in a letter of explaination concerning why i wanted to step down and why i will be absent from the kh.
it only took two and a half days for the accusation of apostasy to be made against me.

Dear JWD's
Thank you all very much for your support. I am truly amazed at the amount of comments in such a short period of time. I will compile a post of my story shortly so that all will become familar with me and my situation although I am sure it is probably very similar to many out there already.
Just a brief note: One poster asked if I jumped headlong into this decision. Well, be assurred I took many years to make my decision. My doubts began almost immediately after my appointment as an elder over 9 years ago. My very first difficult encounter was not a judical meeting with a publisher over some wrong doing but with a member of the anointed who was truly abusing the friends. And when I challenged him all hell broke lose. He's still an elder and still of the anointed but I immediately developed a reputation of not taking any crap from anyone no matter who he was. (He still hates me, his lose).
I am losing my wife over this situation as well, which is quite disturbing. But, my two daughters have also left and my son never took to the truth so I do have a support system. But, I have learned to keep many things to myself since I see little benefit from speaking up. Most do not accept the negative info concerning their faith.
Will post more asap.
Thank you all again.

Thank you for your welcome to the board, it is appreciated.
To answer blondies question: There is no evidence of apostasy just my voicing a question of the GB's credibility, which is a no no. Some time ago I posted a link to a study I did concerning the GB and the claim of a 1st century connection to authority. I released that study to my PO this week and although he is understanding of my concerns it is obvious that you just cannot do such a thing. Thus, the accussations.
